Leading Tone Education Society hosts concerts and recitals for local music educators and their students at community hubs such as senior homes, schools and community centres. 

Our Mission

Music is meant to connect people. At Leading Tone Education Society, we aim to serve our local communities by bridging music students, teachers with local communities who are in need of musical services. For students, we want to instill in them a passion for service with their talents, and showing them how their contribution can make a huge difference in the community. Our organization provides proof of volunteer hours for participants.For teachers, we want to provide a comfortable performance platform for their students to mature as a musician.

As a UBC student, Jackson is deeply committed to the development and improvement of the community. He believed together we could make the community stronger and more vibrant. He has tried several entrepreneurship like LEMON AUTO ACCESSORIES LTD. and found out that only making a better community could help improve the society as well as every individual in the society. As a co-founder of Leading Tone, he dedicates himself to its operations and shows grits in making a lasting impact.

Sophie Lin

Director of Finance

Sophie is a Financial student at UBC, deeply committed to chasing her academic expertise. Influences by her family, she has been involved in charitable activities since the age of five, providing material and psychological support to more than five children from rural families lasting for more than 10 years. With over 15 years of piano experience, Sophie believes in the power of music to express love. As a co-founder and financial director of Leading Tone, she makes the financial plans to hold every event and ensures events are executed at their best within a budget. Sophie approaches her work with passion and professionalism, building meaningful connections between children and elders through this platform.

Morten Yu

Founder

“I believe each one of us carries a responsibility to care for the needed, to impart kindness, and to foster a compassionate community.”

Morten is an avid musician and teacher who is frequently engaged in social work and entrepreneurial projects. His past engagements include serving as a church pianist for 14 years, running Bliss Wedding Music and Morten Yu Music Academy. As the founder of Leading Tone, he believes Leading Tone provides a platform for his students and other teachers to instil a sense of social responsibility in the next generation.
